Dear Friends,
I am thrilled to announce my upcoming painting workshop in collaboration with my colleague, Antonella Petese, and her art studio, “L’Albero d’Oro.”
For nearly fifteen years, I have worked with art galleries around the world. My exhibited work has garnered not only interest but also curiosity about my painting process from art enthusiasts, students, and fellow artists alike.
At openings, exhibitions, and art fairs, I’ve been asked countless questions: how I choose my subjects, the techniques I use to complete a painting, how I manage light and movement on the canvas, etc. Many have also reached out seeking advice and insight.
Of course, I can’t promise that in just five days, I’ll be able to answer all your questions. Even I, in all honesty, can’t claim to have definitive answers when it comes to approaching a blank canvas. Every new painting feels like a fresh start—guided, however, by an ever-expanding wealth of experience.
My journey with oil painting began outdoors, with my easel set up on the grass, battling the challenges of constantly shifting light. I painted this way for quite some time before transitioning to the studio. While I deeply value the usefulness of photographic references, I also recognize the irreplaceable experience of painting en plein air, where an authentic and personal vision of reality can truly be rediscovered.
This is the essence of what I hope to share during this workshop, as it is where my own artistic journey began. It’s in the light of day that I find clarity when I need to step away from a static vision—one that risks becoming overly reliant on the frozen certainty of a single photographic moment. Time in the studio, while invaluable, can sometimes become more of a trap than an ally.
So, what can you expect from these five days? Here’s a brief outline:
● Each day, we’ll work in a different location, experimenting with varied approaches tailored to the chosen subject and its specific challenges.
● We’ll start with technical essentials: materials, color palettes, tools, and so on.
● I’ll provide 2 complete demonstrations lasting 2–3 hours each (on June 23rd and 25th)
● We’ll paint together outdoors, embracing the unpredictability of weather and ever-changing light.
● I’ll work directly on your canvas when needed—even painting “four-handed”—to help you refine your vision and develop your personal style.
● We’ll explore key principles of composition and color.
● We’ll focus on managing light and movement to bring your work to life.
● At the end of each day, we’ll hold a feedback and review session, analyzing your progress and addressing any questions that arise.
Looking forward to sharing this enriching experience with you.
See you soon!
